Alumni of Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are encouraged to participate in the Basketball Marathon. There are a variety of ways alumni can help whether you still live in the area or not.

Be a Player and form your own team:
Each team can consist of 6-8 players, each of whom will be responsible for raising as much money as they can for the kids (we have set the minimum at $100 per player). Each team will get to play 1-2 hours, depending on the number of teams interested. We strongly encourage applicants to commit to staying in the gym for the Full Marathon (26 hours), but you can also opt for the Half Marathon (13 hours), the Quarter Marathon (6 hours), or simply play Pickup (1 hour). We want teams to stay as long as they can to show support for the kids. Priority in playing time (we are expecting more

applicants than we have time for) will go to those who (1) commit to stay the longest (2) turn in the forms first and (3) recruit sister/brother teams from the school down the road for intense match-ups. You can also sign up as an individual and we’ll make a team for you. Registration forms can be found on our Players page. If you have any questions, send them our way. [Click here for Players Page]

Become a Coach or Cheerleader:
Want to become involved courtside in a different way? Become a cheerleader or coach and support a team of your friends as they take on your rivals. Come up with creative cheers and receive prizes. We are encouraging cheerleaders and coaches to stay with their teams throughout the entire event, sharing the experience of supporting the kids while living it out in the gym. Each team can have up to 2 cheerleaders and 3 coaches. Cheerleaders and coaches will be required to raise $50 each.

Become an Event Volunteer:
Volunteer to help out during the basketball marathon weekend. We need help setting and cleaning up, providing event security, working the log book, stats, and scoreboard, videotaping the marathon, providing transportation for food pick-ups and deliveries, and so forth. If you do not have the time to work on the basketball marathon during the year, consider becoming an event volunteer.
